Try something new for 2018.
Volunteer at the University of Cambridge Museums

During this cold snap, why not take the opportunity to have a browse at the Get Involved page of the University of Cambridge Museums website. We have just posted three new and exciting roles for the Fitzwilliam Museum, Polar Museum and the UCM Events team.

One of these roles could be that New Years Resolution that you have been searching for.

Volunteer Visitor Observer - The Fitzwilliam Museum

The Fitzwilliam Museum has a responsibility to protect and preserve the collections under its care for as long as possible.  In order to this, we need to understand how best to protect collections on display, while still making them accessible to visitors and without hindering visitors’ enjoyment.  To understand how effective the methods we use to deter touching (e.g. barriers, ‘Do Not Touch’ signs), we would like to undertake a research project.  This project will involve collating opinions from visitors and staff, as well as observing visitor behaviour in the galleries.

Twilight at the Museums Volunteer - University of Cambridge Museums

We need you! We are looking for enthusiastic, welcoming volunteers to help with the University of Cambridge Museums’ event Twilight at the Museums on the evening of Tuesday 13 February, 4.30 – 7.30pm.

For more information, please visit our Get Involved web page

Front of House Volunteer - The Polar Museum

For many visitors to the Polar Museum the first thing they see is a smile and a welcome from one of our brilliantly enthusiastic front of house volunteers. Our volunteers come from all sorts of backgrounds, often with a pre-existing interest in the polar regions, although those that had little or no prior knowledge soon built up a surprising stock of facts about history at the poles as well as the work that the Scott Polar Research Institute is doing today.

Volunteers are vital to the life of the Polar Museum. Their dedication and generosity make it possible for us to open our doors and share the wonderful collections we hold with thousands of visitors every year.
