We are delighted to announce the first round of the Development Commissions Programme. Market Place supports new ideas that encourage participation in the arts, develops new programmes or arts organisations, or kick-starts new partnerships for (both voluntary and professional sectors) to collaborate with a specific audience in our seven market towns.

ABOUT THE PROGRAMME

Proposals are invited for arts projects in Fenland and Forest Heath. These should be connected to the themes of programmes. which are being created by Creative Forums in each town. These themes have been kept broad in order to encourage a wide range of applications:

  • Brandon: Local stories, both historical and folklore, and geography
  • Mildenhall: The hidden treasures of modern Mildenhall
  • Newmarket: Reinventing racing and the elements of racing with a town soapbox challenge
  • Chatteris: The dark stories and characters of the fens
  • March: Musical talent and heritage of the area
  • Whittlesey: Photography, film and projection
  • Wisbech: Connecting communities to the town’s cultural resources (buildings, festivals and events)

Market Place is required by its funders to achieve particular objectives which are outlined in the project’s business plan.

Applicants are invited to submit a brief idea and then attend a support session / have a telephone consultation to develop your proposal, which will then be considered by a funding panel, who will assess the strength of your application and how your application meets the funding requirements.

The Development Commissions Programme will provide any sum up to £1500 per commission.

Potential applications for activity could include, for instance:

Developing your programme and/or marketing to reach a new audience
Running pilot sessions of activities to develop your membership or audience
Building a working relationship with a community group through an arts participation project

WHO CAN ENTER

Development Commissions are open to anyone wanting to contribute to building the creative offer in the market towns of Forest Heath and Fenland. Creative businesses and professional artists are eligible to apply alongside voluntary arts groups, community organisations and young people. In developing your commission we would encourage you to collaborate with project partners to ensure that you have the capacity and skills to deliver your proposed idea.
