PEOPLE NEEDED FOR FLASH MOB

Brandon Fire&Flint Festival

Saturday 23 September Brandon Suffolk

We're looking for flash mobs to add to pop up theatrical performances on our festival day in Brandon.

CALL-OUT #1
Call for flash mobbers (any age/gender) to create a moment of spontaneity in the middle of an event at 3pm on 23rd September, in Brandon, Suffolk.
Any time from 2:30pm, find the Shoestring stall on Market Hill and say the passphrase, "Got anything from the 17th century?" You will then be given some streamers. Keep these with you and hang around Market Hill.
At exactly 3pm, start swirling the streamers round in circles in the air, wandering around randomly, and chant the following:

"Sand, sand, sand,
Never seen so much sand, sand, sand,
Sweeping 'cross the land, land, land,
Swirling all around, round, round,
Where will it land?"

Please listen to each other to keep in time.

Keep repeating these actions until you hear a whistle (after about 1min). At that, wherever you are, crouch down to the ground and stay there until a short poem has been recited. You will hear a "Thank you" at the end.

You can then be on your way, or stay to enjoy the rest of the event. We hope to see you there!

CALL-OUT #2
Call for women and children to create a moment of spontaneity in the middle of an event at 3:40pm on 23rd September, in Brandon, Suffolk.

At exactly 3:40pm, some red streamers will drop from a first-storey window of the Flintknappers pub on Market Hill. When you see these, please exclaim "Fire!" (or similar) and help form a chain to pass buckets from the Shoestring stall and throw water at the streamers.

When the streamers disappear (after around 1min), there will be a short piece of period drama (around another 1min). Please stay to watch. You can then be on your way, or stay to enjoy the rest of the event.
You may wish to arrive a little before 3:40pm to check for the location of the Shoestring stall. We hope to see you there!

CALL-OUT #3
Call for flash mobbers (any age/gender) to create a moment of spontaneity in the middle of an event at 4:20pm on 23rd September, in Brandon, Suffolk.

Any time from 3:40pm, find the Shoestring stall on Market Hill and say the passphrase, "Got anything from the 19th century?" You will then be given some flints. Keep these with you and hang around Market Hill.
At exactly 4:20pm, start wandering aimlessly around Market Hill bashing your flints together in a slow, steady rhythm. Please try to keep in time with everyone else if you can. If you wish, you can also repeat the following lines in unison with others (delivered slowly and steadily):

"In the grim of Grime's Graves,
Dusty splinters sting –
But the stones protect the bones
Of our soldiers and our king."

Continue until a Major-General calls "Attention!" (after around 1min). At that, stand still and face the Major-General as he delivers a speech (approx 2min). Cheer his words when others cheer.
You're welcome to keep your flints once the performance has finished. You can then be on your way, or stay to enjoy the rest of the event. We hope to see you there!

CALL-OUT #4
Call for flash mobbers (any age/gender) to create a moment of spontaneity in the middle of an event at 5pm on 23rd September, in Brandon, Suffolk.

At exactly 5pm on Market Hill, a milkman will begin chanting at a butcher. Please fall in behind the milkman and slowly advance on the butcher whilst chanting, "You're a bully, not a butcher!"
When the milkman stops, please stand and stare threateningly at the butcher while a short altercation takes place between him and the milkman (around 1min). Once their argument is over, you can then be on your way, or stay to enjoy the rest of the event.
We hope to see you there!

CALL-OUT #5
Call for flash mobbers (any age/gender) to create a moment of spontaneity in the middle of an event at 5:50pm on 23rd September, in Brandon, Suffolk.

Any time from 5pm, find the Shoestring stall on Market Hill and say the passphrase, "Got anything from the future?" You will then be given some green ribbon. Keep these with you and hang around Market Hill.
At exactly 5:50pm on Market Hill, some slow music will begin to play across a loudspeaker. Wherever you are, please stop and create the shape of a tree, dangling your ribbons and waving them around in the air looking serene and peaceful.
After a short while (around 1min), the sound of a chainsaw will begin, and a (fake) chainsaw will be held up at the Shoestring stall. Without changing your expression, please slowly move towards the chainsaw until you're just a couple of metres away, then drop down to the ground.
Once all the "trees" are "felled", a short poem will be recited (less than 1min) – a warning for the future. You can then be on your way, or stay to enjoy the rest of the event.
We hope to see you there!
