Back in February, a group of ten children and young people aged 10-15 came together and started planning a one-day community festival. Supported by Staff from Cambridge City Council Neighbourhood Community Development Service, the group applied and were successful in being awarded some funds by South Area Committee grants scheme (Cambridge City Council).

Vicky Haywood, Community Development Officer based in Trumpington said; “It’s been a brilliant experience for the young people and they have learnt some valuable skills along the way. An event that brings together the new and existing residents in Trumpington for a one-day celebration is sure to be a great positive event for the community.”

The group have worked hard over the past few months with support from their youth workers to prepare for the event taking place on Saturday 19th August. Activities on the day will include face painting, bouncy castles, community stalls, demonstrations in the arena from local dance and sports groups and an area of activities dedicated for children aged 10+ including a disco dome. The event draws to an end in the evening with some music played by local young bands.

Richard Johnson, exec member for communities commented that “It’s wonderful to see young people taking an idea and see it through to the end.  Cambridge City Council has a strong commitment to supporting communities and it’s great to see another event that showcases local talent and boosts community spirit.”

This event is organised and lead by young people who attend Trumpington Youth Forum, with support from Cambridge City Council. The event is free to attedn, some activities are chargeable. Children and Young people are free to come and go as they please.  ALl under 7's must be accompanied and supervised by an adult. This is an alcohol-free event.
