Julia ‘s Art Practice is informed by over twenty years experience working in Community Gardens and City Farms. Most recently running the Market Garden and Herb Workshop at The Blackthorn Garden near Maidstone for over 14 years.

Julia has a multidisciplinary approach with a strong research base. She engages with plant material accessed from her local landscape in east Kent, National Plant Collections and Community Projects. Julia has been based in kent for many years and is now relocating to East Anglia.

Her work explores her interests in ethnobotany and embodies many layered considerations and narratives. These include social, environmental, historical, symbolic and spiritual.

Julia is inspired by the historical and contemporary traditions of Botanical Art and Contemporary Drawing practice.

Her more sculptural pieces are influenced by the Japanese Oshibana tradition of making pictures using pressed flowers and other botanical materials.

Julia came away from University with a first in Fine Art and since then has exhibited extensively.

Julia won the Kent Creative Award this year for her Art Practice, she is a member of the Bedgebury Pinetum Florilegium Society and the Kent based Artists Co-operative ‘Making Art Work’.

Julia is working towards her exhibition at the Royal Horticultural Society Botanical Art Show having been selected last year.
