Choreographer at TURNING WORLDS

JANE TURNER started training in dance as a child, performing regionally as a teenager, before taking a first degree in Performing Arts (dance major) and going on to join the Scala Ballet, Barcelona. She went on to tour with the Hallmark Theatre Company, set up and led the community dance organisation and magazine DICE, before initiating the dance company TURNING WORLDS which tours innovative contemporary performance works nationally with integrated participatory projects. Jane has worked extensively as a performer, movement director, teacher and choreographer in commercial, educational and theatrical contexts, from TV commercials to the film Goldeneye, independent theatre to Liz Carr’s Assisted Suicide The Musical exploring euthanasia and disability politics that toured internationally from London’s Royal Festival Hall to the Melbourne comedy festival. Recent dancefilms created in collaboration with film-maker Chris Frazer Smith include A Rare Glimpse, awarded the PDSW’s 2016 Joie de Vivre Bronze Award and most recently programmed at the Lillian Baylis Theatre, Sadlers Wells, and Semaphore presented at Lightworks 2016 Festival of Screen Dance, Limerick.  She is particularly interested in collaboration and interdisciplinarity, the science and art of flocking, swarming and has a PhD in complexity as choreographic equation. As a .5 Senior Lecturer at London Metropolitan University she is active in education and research. She has created projects in collaboration with many Cambridge organisations and artists including the Cambridge Computer Laboratory, the Festival of Ideas and Richard Hoadley at Anglia Ruskin University. She co-leads the Conway Collective performance programming at London’s iconic Conway Hall and is currently involved with a Kent Opera project at Swaleside prison.
