Creative Writing
Education / Participation

Starting in the small press world of the 1980s, I studied Creative Writing and Literature and co-founded Stride Magazine with Rupert Loydell.

My three educational books on writing for foreign language learners are published by Cambridge University Press and Xi’an Jiaotong University Press (China) and used around the world in school and university classrooms.

I’ve run various writing workshops (both evening and residential) and performed my own work at various venues and events (ranging from the Greenbelt Festival to the Duke of York’s Theatre).
From 2010-2015 I chaired Creative Royston / Royston Arts Festival, a voluntary arts development organisation in north Hertfordshire and had the pleasure of working with many local arts organisations, sharing a stage with such notables as Alison Balsom, Meera Syal and Wendy Cope and judging Dalek karaoke! I also initiated and implemented a permanent town art trail, working with a local artist, business and schools.

I am currently working on a historical biography and am open to commissions, creative collaborations and running workshops.

Feedback from a recent session:
“The atmosphere in the workshop was buzzing and I am really looking forward to enjoying the finished stories.” Laura Rawlings, Headteacher, Greneway Middle School
